My first published work was on a band’s official blog. As the budding seventeen year old I was, I happily filmed the concert in which one of The Veronicas performed a duet, sold merchandise and wrote a review for the New Empire concert.
The lights were dim when a few screams broke the silence. New Empire exploded onto the stage, rolling their plectrums across the strings of their guitars and destroying the drums as their smooth voices cascaded through the Old Museum. The huge In A Breath banner was slung behind them, providing the perfect backdrop for the impending enchantment. With a few glances at each other, the band was in synch, their contagious grins breaking down any barriers between themselves and the audience. It was as though they were encased in a bubble, with each passion-filled song inviting the crowd inside.
The set unfolded with songs from their most recent album, In A Breath, mixed with a few Symmetry classics.
Following Tightrope, Jeremy welcomed Lisa Origliasso (1/2 of The Veronicas) on stage to join Kyle, Kale, Nate and himself. As smoke filtered through the air, the five artists performed Ghosts together in blissful harmony, spinning an eerie yet peaceful musical trance. With Jeremy on the piano, along with Lisa’s voice, the atmosphere surrounding New Empire was euphoric.
Anyone in attendance would struggle to convey the atmosphere of the In A Breath tour to friends, as it was just you with them. All you could do was listen to their music, forgetting about everyone else in the room. It was another spectacular show.”
